Cast Your Cares
April 2023
I know that there are so many things happening in the world today that can bring anxiety into your life. Maybe it is hearing news of all the disturbances in the political and economic realm that brings uncertainty about your future. Or perhaps there are things more personal, like unsaved loved ones, health issues or unpaid bills.
Whatever the source of anxiety, I have good news for you. This spirit of fear does not come from God. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
What you are hearing, seeing or picturing in your mind that brings fear and anxiety gathers its energy from satan’s lies. Every good and perfect gift comes from God, the Father of Light. This is what James, the brother of Jesus said in James 1:17. He also said, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) In other words, resist the thoughts the enemy brings to your mind!
I used to think that there wasn’t much I could do about worry and anxiety. Even as a young child, I was often filled with fear and worry. But I learned from reading my Bible that there was something I had to do to get rid of it. It did no good for me to pray to be free from worry. I had to get rid of it. I had to cast that concern and anxiety on the Lord. I learned this from the apostle Peter who knew Jesus and was with Him in person for Jesus’ entire earthly ministry.
“Casting the whole of your care (all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all) on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” (1 Peter 5:7 AMPC)
Peter was a fisherman and he knew all about “casting.” After all, he pitched that net out of his boat several times a day!
Will you take your worries, fears and concerns, and throw them out of your boat? Cast them out of your life! It requires practice, so start now. Say this, “I now cast the whole of my care – all my anxieties – all my worries – all my concerns on God my Father. I let them go! They are no longer mine! I lay hold of the peace of God for my mind and heart.”
If the thoughts of worry come back, say, “No! I have cast that on the Lord! I refuse to worry about anything!” Train yourself by practicing this as often as necessary. Quote the Word to the enemy and he will tire of hearing it. And you will be victorious!
In Christ,
