The Healing Power of the Word

Let’s read I Peter 2:24, Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

The WORD says you were healed. Sickness is a curse of the law, and Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us....” Matthew 8:17 says, “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” He took your infirmities and bare your sicknesses. Learn to read the scriptures with a personal identification. Isaiah 53:5 says, “...with his stripes we are healed.” With His stripes YOU ARE HEALED. Someone said, “Yes, but you don’t understand. I don’t feel healed and I really don’t look healed.” That person has been programmed by the world system, the five physical senses. The WORD is not IN them. They may know about the WORD, they may even believe the Word is true, but until it becomes a part of them, it is not in them. Yes, I do understand. You are motivated by your feelings and not by the WORD of GOD.

I have heard some folks say, “Pray for me, I’m taking the flu.” They’ve got it termed right; they are taking it. Satan offered it to them. He said, “You’ve got a runny nose, and a neck ache; now, let’s see what you’re going to say about it.” Then most people will side with the devil and begin to say the very thing he said. “I am taking a cold.”

The Prayer of Petition

I receive letters and e-mails fairly often from people who are confused about “praying more than once about the same thing.” Sometimes they think that if they confess the Word more than once, the second time is in doubt or unbelief.

Prayer and confession of the Word are two different things. Prayer is simply talking to God and talking to God can be for many different purposes. You can talk to God simply to fellowship with Him and not ask anything. You can praise Him for the blessings in your life and all He has done. You can worship Him because of Who He is – holy and worthy of our reverence.

Then, there is confession of the Word – speaking the Word out loud. The number one purpose of this is to plant His Word in your heart so that it will produce the fruit of faith within you. This may or may not be a form of prayer, but its primary purpose is to get the Word in you. God knows what He said and it pleases Him to hear you repeat His Word and promises. A combination prayer-confession could be, “Father, I thank you that Your Word is true. I have given and it is given unto me. You supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory!” That is a prayer of thanksgiving and confessing His Word is true – a powerful combination. Confession can simply be repeating the Scriptures as they apply to you personally and not directed to God specifically.

Praying with Power

I’ve heard it said that prayer is never a waste of time. However, I would dare to say that prayer can be ineffectual if: (1) you have no purpose because it is only a religious habit, or (2) you don’t know the principles governing prayer.

Some of the sermons I have heard on prayer would lead you to believe that all prayer is something you do to please God, or something you do for God. Jesus taught us that there are many kinds of prayer. Prayer or “talking with God” is for our benefit and for fellowship with our Creator.

One of the ways of praying is the prayer of petition. A petition is when you ask for something.  You don’t ask for something on God’s behalf; you ask for yourself or others. So there is no reason for the prayer of petition unless there is a need.

When an attorney goes to court before the judge to present a petition, he must obey the laws of the land and appear in a manner in which the court approves. He presents the facts of the case and shows faith in the court by assuming that the judge and jury will uphold the law that is written. No honest judge would be reluctant to uphold a clearly stated law.

In a similar way, God revealed Himself in the person of His Son and gave us a written statement of how His laws work. The Word of God is a legal statement of fact. It tells us what God will do.

The Wisdom of Love

It would be difficult to deny the importance of love in the Christian walk. We talk about love and we can rejoice in the love of God that motivated God to send His only Son to redeem us from the powers of darkness, save us from sin and heal us from sickness. And, according to Jesus, the world will know we follow Christ by our love. It is love that draws people to repent. It is love that is missing in their lives, not theology and doctrine.

Paul said in Romans 5:5 that the love of God has been shed abroad (poured into our hearts) through the Holy Spirit. My observation has been that the challenge of love is allowing it to pour out to others; particularly those who have “done you wrong.”  Lest you think I am preaching at you, I will admit that I myself have had challenges! Before I share my personal experiences, let’s look at the scriptures and allow them to speak for themselves:

“To sum up, you should all be of one mind living like brothers with true love and sympathy for each other, generous and courteous at all times. Never pay back a bad turn with a bad turn or an insult with another insult, but on the contrary pay back with good. For this is your calling—to do good and one day to inherit all the goodness of God. For: He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile: let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.” (1 Peter 3:8-11 Phillips)

Light Shines Out of Darkness

As we approach the end of the age, we as believers are coming closer to the Kingdom of Light and our light will become brighter. But the world is coming closer to the kingdom of darkness. Therefore, their darkness will become darker. For the scriptures reveal that the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Things are not going to get better in the world. The world will be walking further into darkness, stumbling as it goes. But you don’t have to stumble in darkness. You can have the light of life. “The spirit of man is the candle (lamp) of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” (Proverbs 20:27) This scripture reveals that it is through the human spirit that God communicates with mankind. When Adam was created, his spirit (lamp) was in tune with God and enlightened. But when he sinned, his lamp went out and he became spiritually dead. He had lost the illumination of the Holy Spirit in his spirit.

Ultimate Trust

Outside the windshield of the Piper Twin Comanche, the world was spinning and the patchwork of cotton fields and rice fields was a dizzying kaleidoscope of colors from an altitude of 10,000 feet. The g-forces of our rapid descent to earth plastered my body to the back of the seat like glue and I could feel the skin on my face stretching toward my ears.

But, I wasn’t afraid.

I should have been…but I wasn’t.

Why? Because my Daddy was the best pilot in the whole world!

We were in an uncontrolled spin in a twin engine plane, with the direction of the spin reversing each time my Dad applied power to the opposite engine to attempt to stop the spin. In 1963, I was 9 years old and my Dad was a young 29, and that day both of us almost went to heaven WAY TOO SOON…right there in our own cotton field. Angels Ministering Spirits

The ministry of angels is a very valid ministry today. I believe we will see it increase in these end-times. As you read Hebrews chapter one and into the second chapter, you will notice that the subject matter does not change. He continues on about Jesus and angels and admonishes us not to let this information slip away from us.

“But to which of the angels has He ever said:  Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:13-14)

“Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” (Hebrews 2:1)

What have we just heard by reading verse 14? That the angels are all ministering spirits sent forth on the Earth to minister for us who are the heirs of salvation. We should give more earnest heed to the fact that Jesus is greater than angels and that angels were created to minister for us.

The Power of the Spoken Word

Most people don’t understand the power of words. Do you realize that the things you are speaking out of your mouth are setting the cornerstone of your life? Some words deceive. Some words transmit faith. Think about it. The words you speak can transmit faith or fear. So when we are talking about your spoken words, we are talking about things that are powerful enough to change lives for the better or worse.

Genesis 1:1-3 says, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

Notice the Spirit of God was hovering over the water. The water was there, the darkness was there and the Spirit of God was there. But nothing happened until words were spoken. God spoke and said, Light. When God spoke, it came into existence. His words were His creative power.

Strongholds of Safety

When we talk about strongholds, we usually think about the “pulling down of strongholds” as Paul described in 2 Corinthians 10:4. But there are two different areas of strongholds. The strongholds of the enemy keep people bound, but the stronghold of the Lord keeps people safe and secure. There is a stronghold of safety and protection in the secret place of the Most High. We all know about the stronghold of the enemy and have personally experienced his assault on our minds, our bodies, our homes, and our finances. However, we can find deliverance and safety in the stronghold of God.

The psalmist David often spoke of his safety in God, his Fortress. Where did David get his ideas of God being his “stronghold” or “fortress”? Could it be that living in the rocks and cliffs gave him those thoughts? In 1 Samuel 23:29, the Bible says, “David went up from there and dwelt in the strongholds of En-Gedi.” When I read this, I pictured a desert with no vegetation, only sand, dirt, and rocks. But it’s actually a beautiful place with water flowing, and there’s a freshwater spring. There are also cliffs in the rocks above the oasis.

Wounded Spirits cause Physical Sickness

Emotional wounds strike at the very heart of a person. Even strong and confident people who experience emotional upheaval can find themselves depressed and down in spirit. If you are like most people, you have had a “broken heart” at some time because of grief from the death of a loved one, loss of a pet, or divorce. Betrayal also can attempt to crush and break your spirit.

Long before medical science discovered that stress, trauma, and emotional pain affect the physical body, the Bible revealed the connection between the spirit or what we call the “heart” of a person. “A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.” (Proverbs 14:30)

When your heart is happy and healthy, it produces the energy of life into the cells of your body, but depression and discouragement saps the very life out of you. Attempting to get physical healing apart from the healing of the heart is like pouring water into a cup with a hole in the bottom. All the life force just continues to leak out. That is why the Bible teaches us to guard and protect our heart above everything else, “Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 CSB)

Prayer Confessions for the New Year

Everything we construct must have a foundation. The things that we believe become the cornerstones of our futures, so we must choose our foundations wisely. Build your foundation for 2022 on God’s Word.

Seek Wisdom First

Proverbs 2:1-6

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Grace Through Faith

One of the keys to understanding the truths of the New Covenant is having a revelation of the gift of grace. The apostle Paul gives us clear insight in this matter in Romans, Chapters 4-6. Romans 4:13 NIV says, “It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.” Verse 16, “Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.” Here Paul indicates the way we enter into grace is through faith.

We have all heard that grace is unmerited favor. Well, that is true, but it is much more than that. Grace is God’s willingness to use His power and His ability on your behalf, even though you don’t deserve it. This definition of grace will challenge you to study the Scriptures concerning grace. Paul tells us that it is through faith that we are able to enter into grace.

Believing & Receiving Your Healing

There is tremendous power in believing. Jesus said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15) God doesn’t just tell us to believe, but His Word explains specifically what and how we are to believe.

Mark 9 records the story of a young boy with an evil spirit who was brought to Jesus. After describing his son’s condition, the boy’s father said, “…if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” (Mark 9:22) Notice he said “if” you can do anything. His knowledge of Christ’s abilities limited his belief. You can’t believe any further than you have knowledge, because you must know about something before you can believe it.

Jesus answered, “…If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23) We all have the ability to believe. When we are born again, we are called “believers” and who has ever heard of a believer who couldn’t believe? Christ’s response to this man reveals that it was not a question of whether Jesus could do anything, but rather, would the man believe? If he would, the child would be delivered.

Romans 5:1-2 NIV: “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand…” In other words, the only way that we have access into God’s grace (His willingness) is through faith in His Word and the blood of Jesus, His Son.

Agents of Two Kingdoms

The word “agent” is defined as “a person who acts on behalf of another person or group” and “a person or thing that takes an active role or produces a specified effect” (such as an agent of change).

There are agents representing two different kingdoms at work in this world.

Whether we realize it or not, there is constant conflict between the kingdom of God and satan’s kingdom, and we are caught in the middle. We may not see the actual spiritual forces battling and competing for the lives of people, but we can see the results. And it is becoming more and more apparent that the forces of evil are controlling more and more people who are yielding to darkness. Those of us in the light are standing out more and more also, as the darkness grows greater, our light, the light of Christ glows as a beacon.

Hope A Partner To Faith

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

Faith is the substance of things, but hope is a very important part of the faith connection. Sometimes people say, “You don’t get anything by hoping.” And that’s true to a certain extent, for there is no substance to hope.

But hope is a very important partner to faith. Hope is the goal-setter. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. The substance of “things” – what things? The things you hoped for. What do we hope for? We hope for the things that God has given us.

That’s why the Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him...” God is not pleased when we don’t enter into the provisions that He made for us. Some things we will never enter into except through faith. God’s willingness is multiplied to us through the knowledge of God. We must know what God has given, or we can’t have faith in that promise.

How to Pray the Prayer of Faith

What is the “Prayer of Faith”? One of the easiest ways to define something is to discover what it is NOT. The opposite of the prayer of faith is a prayer of unbelief. Why would someone even bother to pray a prayer of unbelief? Usually a person thinks the act of prayer or repetition of prayer and begging God will finally change His mind or get Him to give in. Jesus said in Matthew 6:7, “And when praying, do not use needless repetitions as the Gentiles do, for they expect to be listened to because of their multitude of words.” (Weymouth)

Unbelief simply means that you don’t believe it will happen based on God’s goodness and willingness. But…it MIGHT happen if you work hard enough in your own strength by praying a lot, or repeating something over and over. (This is what the prophets of Baal did in 1 Kings Chapter 18.) If you are in total unbelief you might not even bother to pray. After all, whatever happens will happen.

Let’s take a look at what the scripture says: “And we have an assured confidence that whenever we ask anything in accordance with His will, He listens to us.” (1 John 5:14 Weymouth)

The Triangle of The End

While teaching a series of meetings in Dallas, Texas, the spirit of prophecy came upon me. The prophecy pertained to the triangle of the end. As you approach the triangle of the end, time shall grow faster and closer, faster and closer…until the wicked shall be cut off.

As those words came forth, I saw in my spirit, as it were, a large acute triangle. It was standing on end, looking somewhat like an inverted pyramid, with a line drawn down the center line from the wide top to the narrow point at the bottom, which resembled a funnel. Inside this triangle was light, but outside was darkness.

The prophetic word continued, “There was a time when you could be off from the center line at the top of the triangle and still be inside the triangle of light. But as you approach the triangle of the end, you must move to the center line, for line must be upon line, precept upon precept.

Double Curse Double Cure

When it comes to sickness and disease there are so many Christians that are confused about where it comes from and what is the purpose of it in their lives. Some have even been taught that everything that happens to them in life is the will of God for them. But nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s look at it from this angle using the Word of God as our benchmark. If sickness was the will of God for you, then why did James say, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up...” (James 5:14-15)

Then we have the words of Jesus in Mark chapter 16 revealing that believers shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. The apostle Peter wrote in I Peter 2:24, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed.” These three witnesses affirm healing for those who are ill.

Mixing Faith with The Word

“But with whom was he grieved forty years? Was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?...So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” (Hebrews 3:17,19) “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” (Hebrews 4:2)

Who did He call the evil generation? Those that brought back the evil report. The evil report was that they told what they saw, what they felt, and what they heard. That is not always an evil report, only when it disagrees with what God said.

There are many today that unknowingly give evil reports. They are speaking contrary to what God reveals in His Word. Sometimes they pray for victory and get up and confess defeat. Have you ever prayed that God would meet your need, and then a day or two later you were saying that you are so worried that you don’t know what you are going to do?

Bringing Anxiety Captive

Webster defines anxiety as “a state of being uneasy, apprehensive, or worried about what may happen; concerned about a possible future event.” Anxiety is a fact of life in our modern day society. Stress related illness is one of the most popular topics in today’s health magazines. Although some people are more prone to worry than others, I don’t think anyone is immune to anxiety and worry.  That is the reason the apostle Paul wrote to the church at Philippi: Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts, and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

The Concordant Literal translation says, “Let nothing be worrying you...” Nothing worrying you??? Sounds impossible doesn’t it? This translation continues with verse 7, “and the peace of God, that is superior to every frame of mind, shall be garrisoning your hearts and your apprehensions in Christ Jesus.”

Faith for God's Opportunities & Provisions

God gave Israel the Promised Land. It was theirs as far as God was concerned, but they had to seize the God-given opportunity to possess it. God told them that He would send an angel to drive out the enemies before them. But an angel wouldn’t do it on his own, God’s people had to be obedient in order to get angelic help. (Exodus 23:20-23)

They knew what God said, but they didn’t take advantage of their opportunity to possess the land of promise. They fixed their attention on the problem rather than God’s promise. “There are giants over there,” they complained. That was certainly true, but the giants had nothing at all to do with what God said. The people had “grasshopper” vision, which caused them to lose their God-given opportunity. And their failure to act in faith concerning God’s Word caused an entire generation to die in the wilderness. The Scripture states, “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” (Hebrews 3:19) The bottom line was that they didn’t mix faith with what God said, and fear stole their God-given opportunity from them.

Common Sense + Faith = Success

The message of faith and confession that I teach is based on true principles of the Bible. When these principles are misunderstood some people attempt to believe God for millions of dollars when they haven’t learned to believe God for the money to pay their light bill. Some have overloaded their faith. Some are operating on little faith and trying to believe for millions. To be successful in life we must all learn to operate on our own level of faith.

I think this is why some have caused problems in churches. They have gone to a seminar, where they heard someone teach, “You can have what you say.” But they only got a part of what was taught, and went home thinking they were a three-day wonder.
