Experience God's Promises

     There is probably no other story that so greatly influenced my mind and thoughts, and development of my faith than the possession of Canaan by the Israelites, God’s chosen people. This is a most complete picture of “how to” and “how not to,” presenting two different options, opinions or choices. Caleb and Joshua demonstrating their faith by their words, and the other ten whose unbelief and disobedience shut them out of the blessing God had provided for them.

     In Numbers 13:30, Caleb said, “…Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.”

     Caleb was speaking not out of his opinion or reasoning based on external circumstances, but he was speaking out of what he knew in his heart. You see, God had already declared to Abraham hundreds of years before, “All the land which you see I will give to you and your descendants forever.” (Genesis 13:15 NKJV)

     God even told Abraham that his descendants would be slaves for 400 years and then, “…in the fourth generation they shall return here…” (Genesis 15:16 NKJV)

     All of Israel heard and had been taught these things. The bottom line is that they refused to believe and act on the promise of God given in covenant to them. God was grieved with them because He had made abundant provision for them to live and be blessed in the land of promise, and they refused to enter.

     I wonder how many times God has been grieved seeing the abundant life He has provided, and rather than declare, “I am well able to enter and possess the blessings of God,” many draw back out of fear or ignorance of God’s promise.

     Will you bring joy to the Father by experiencing all He has given? God obviously delighted in the faith of Caleb and Joshua. There is a spirit of faith that can permeate our lives, making us quick to say “YES!” and quick to believe the goodness and faithfulness of God.
