The Kingdom - Our Source of Supply

   We live in a world where most people are ruled by sense knowledge. Most all decisions are made from the five physical senses. Jesus came teaching the Kingdom of God which is a higher spiritual law. In Luke 6, He gives us insight into how to be successful in life.

   “Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you? For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock. But he who merely hears and does not practice doing My words is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation, against which the torrent burst, and immediately it collapsed and fell, and the breaking and ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:46-49 AMPC)

 Most People are ruled by sense knowledge.

   Jesus said if we do these three things we will stand through the storms of life. #1 – Come to me, #2 – Hear my sayings, #3 – Do the sayings of Jesus. Notice He said he lays the foundation of his life on a rock. The rock is the Word of God. In other words, we should base everything we do on what God’s Word says, rather than on the world system.

   If we are to succeed physically, financially, and spiritually, we must be obedient to His Word. Jesus tells us what to do and how to do it. It is then up to us to follow His instructions.

   In Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus reveals that a basic principle of the Kingdom is to seek first the Kingdom of God and trust His ability to supply our every need. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Someone might say that is oversimplifying things, but I didn’t say it—Jesus did!

God Wants to Supply Your Needs Here on Earth

   When Jesus said, “…all these things shall be added to you,” some believe He meant when we get to heaven, but don’t let the enemy con you into believing that everything that God gave you through Jesus Christ is only available when you get to heaven. Yet we are taught not to hoard up treasures here on earth.

   The story is told of a very wealthy man who died. When someone asked how much money he left, the lawyer replied, “All of it.” Heaven is a wealthy place. It is filled with abundance. You won’t need money up there. You need it here on the earth. When you get to heaven, there will be nothing to buy, no demons to cast out, no sick to heal.

 Heaven is filled with abundance. It is the source of our supply.

   Many believe when Jesus said, “Seek the Kingdom,” He meant all we needed would be supplied in Heaven. But ask yourself, “What would we do with it in Heaven?” There won’t be any needs in heaven.

   Paul said, “...we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” (I Timothy 6:7) It is here on the earth that we need the power of God and His anointing to prosper. The Church (Body of Christ) needs finances here and now to preach the Gospel—not when we get to heaven! Jesus was telling us to seek the Source of our supply rather than riches, and then all these things will be added to us even while we are here on earth.

God Will Grant Your Desires if They Originate from His Word

   It takes commitment to God and His Word to possess the Promises. Some people hesitate to totally commit themselves to God and seek His Kingdom because they think if they sell out to God, He will send them to Africa, and they don’t want to go. But that’s not the way God works. James said if a man is a doer of the Word and not a hearer only, he will be blessed in his deeds because he can walk in the perfect law of liberty (James 1:23, 25). If you are sold out to God and determined to do His will without reservation, then God’s perfect will, will grow inside you.

   In other words, He will create in you a desire for the very thing He wants you to do (Psalm 37:4-5). That’s the perfect law of liberty, when you are doing what you desire to do and you are in His perfect will. Psalm 34:10 says, “...those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.” Notice it did not say seek the good things, but rather seek the source of good things.

   I was a farmer for twenty-nine years before I went full time in the ministry, and I loved farming. I had said many times that I would never quit farming. It was the greatest desire of my heart at that time. But when I sold out to God, He began to change my desires. I knew there was a calling on my life, but at first I didn’t want to be a minister because I had the wrong idea of ministers. But finally I said, “Ok Lord, I don’t know where you are leading me, but I’m going.” I was committed. It was several years before God required me to give up farming, but when it was time, my desires had changed and farming didn’t appeal to me any more.

   In 1979, I sold out my farming operation because the greatest desire of my heart was to teach the Word of God. God’s Word will create His desires in your heart. The Scripture says, “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land.” (Isaiah 1:19)

   There are some people who go through life being obedient to all they know, but they never find what God wants them to do because they aren’t willing to do it. It seems as though God will not reveal His complete will until you are willing to do it before you know what it is. But when you get willing, God will change your desires and you will have joy doing His will.

   There are some who go through life miserable; they are obedient all right, but not really willing. They are doing it because they know it is required of them. They are never in the perfect will of God because they aren’t willing even though they are obedient. Then you have some people who are willing, but somehow they just never get around to doing what God requires of them and they are miserable in life.

   It seems that a person will never find what God has in store for them unless they are willing to be obedient to His leading. Once they become willing, His desire will grow inside them.

Put God Before Things

   In order for your desires to be the same that God desires, you must be committed to seeking the source not the desires. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” This simply means that you cannot serve both God and riches. But you can choose to serve God and make riches serve you and God’s work.

   II Peter 1:4 reveals that God has already given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness through the exceeding great and precious promises: “...that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Those who lust after riches will ultimately fail in life even though they may have some success for a while.

   There is no room for that kind of prosperity in the Kingdom of God. When a person’s heart condemns him, his faith won’t work. Wrong motives will shut off the Kingdom supply. John said it this way: “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (I John 3:20-22)

   Then Paul said to Timothy: “But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” (I Timothy 6:9-10 NLT)

   Notice that Paul didn’t say money was the root of all evil. But rather the love of money is the root of all evil. There are people committing that sin who don’t have any money, but would do almost anything for it including robbing and stealing. The Scripture is plain; it’s not money that’s the sin, but the love of money.

   Jesus said, “...For your life can never be measured by the amount of things you possess.” (Luke 12:15 TPT) Jesus urges us not to spend our time seeking after things, but rather the source of true prosperity.

   We must not make riches our god, but we can do as Abraham did. He served God and made riches serve him and God. God wants His people to be wise and balanced in every area of their lives. You can serve God and have riches if you will use riches the way God intended. It’s all right to have things, as long as things don’t have you!

   The key to being successful is simple: Come to Jesus, hear His sayings and do them. Doing what Jesus said is the foundation of true success in life.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33 NLT)

The desires of God are created by seeking the Kingdom first. Make God, the ultimate source of supply, your source. Choose to serve God and make riches serve you and God’s Kingdom.
